Challenge day 2 is upon us! I surprised the kids in this formative assessment by giving them a variety of different materials they can pick up. I brought: marshmallows, marbles, rice, waterballoons, an onion, and a dragon fruit. The kids had to document data in a spreadsheet I provided for them with how many attempts it took to pick up the objects.
“The expectation,” I told the kids, “is that your designs will struggle to pick up one of these objects. When your design fails, your job will be to discuss as a team and reflect on why that particular object was difficult. As a part of your final presentation, you will share what you would do if you were to build a third prototype.”
